Travel Trends for 2024

It’s hard to believe that 2023 is on its way out. Seems like yesterday we were planning summer family get aways and hanging out at Center Hill Lake. But, here we are on the cusp of a brand new year. Let’s ring in the new year with new priorities and new plans!

It appears revenge travel (the surge in travel bookings in response to the limits of the Covid-19 pandemic) is not slowing down. The summer of 2023 saw some of the highest numbers of tourists in Europe and other parts of the world. According to Virtuoso Travel Week, 2024 travel bookings are on the rise, just like 2023, along with early bookings for ’24. There are new hotels, resorts and cruise ships galore! People are eager to try new things and new destinations, moving forward with the attitude that time is of the essence. All of that “togetherness” during the pandemic is moving many travelers to want more “me time” or couples’ time. Solo travel is on the rise.

Trends for the upcoming year still focus on European travel, such as London, France and Scandinavia. Just like so many chose Italy in 2023, the “It” country now is Japan. Japanese culture, food and art appear to be drawing many, making it the popular destination for next year.

Culinary travel is bigger than ever! According to research, 2024 is drawing more people to choose locations with fab food and wine choices. Many travelers remark some of their best memories on vacation was a fav meal or cooking experience, such as cooking classes in a local’s home, wine tastings with experts, or a special picnic at a winery. And, don’t forget about distilleries! We have our own right here near DeKalb County in a gorgeous country side location- Short Mountain Distillery. Nearby towns, such as Cookeville, have tasting options as well for wine and beer. It isn’t hard to plan a foodie tour for those following their passion, whether it is here or abroad. For new emerging destinations abroad, check out Portugal and Slovenia for their food scene.

Science focused expedition cruising is seeing a surge! Travelers want to try new and educational experiences in remote and less explored destinations. This allows travelers to be more hands-on and are often accompanied by scientists. Cruising overall has made a huge come-back! New ships are being introduced now, such as Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and Norwegian’s Aqua. More are being developed as we speak, along with new itineraries and options on board. Multi-generational travel on cruise lines is very popular, for there is something for everyone.

Wellness and spa packages are on the rise. Perhaps this is because many of us are tired and drained from 9-5 jobs and we want to just relax in peace and quiet. Making cultural connections and satisfying a need for stress relief, travelers are seeking out experiences that include meditation and yoga classes, nutritious foods, nature walks and sleeping in the wilderness. One of my favorite experiences was at the Glenwood Springs in Colorado. They are open year round in the country’s largest natural hot springs pool. What a warm, wonderful experience I won’t forget. We can help you locate these activities whether it is in USA or abroad, such as Costa Rico, a popular destination.

So much to choose from for 2024! This is just a brief overview of the trends for this year. Do yourself a favor and start making yourself a priority and plan now. You’ll be glad you did!
